Right to Buy

Are you a council tenant, or were you living in your home when the council transferred it to another landlord?

If yes, now might be the ideal time to think about buying your home.

That’s because the top discount under the Right to Buy in England has been increased. From 6 April 2017 you could get a maximum discount of up to £78,600, or £104,900 if you live in London. This amount increases every year in April in line with inflation.

Eligibility

The scheme is available to you if you have been a council or public sector tenant for at least three years in total, however, this does not have to be in the same property or with the same landlord. It does not have to be continuous either as long as the total period spent in a council property is three years or more.

The scheme is available to you if:

  • You are/were a council tenant and the property was sold to your current landlord

  • The property is your only or main home

  • You have been a tenant for at least three years

  • You don’t live in a sheltered accommodation or housing suitable for the elderly or disabled

  • You don’t have any legal problems with debt

  • You don’t have any outstanding possession orders against you

  • Your home is not due to be demolished

We also provide a nationwide consultation option anywhere in the UK if you prefer. However, most transactions do not require this and we will be happy to do all the work via phone, email and internet. You can be assured that providing a great service is at the heart of what we do whichever way our clients prefer to do business with us.
